Some of the mods in production

There are currently quite a few mods in production. Some have had beta releases prior to the SDK coming out, though most mods aren't getting alot of play due to the broken autodownload feature in Quake 4. I'll give a short rundown of some of them, and where they can be found. I will continue to add mods as I come across them.

[break=q4max]
q4max is one of the mods you hear the most talk about. There are quite a few well known people on the project, most likely the biggest name is arQon the man behind Promode.

q4max was chosen as the official mod for the CPL (Cyberathlete Professional League).

The initial release did include some nice features:
New brightskins
New main menu
New loading screen
Removed intro movies
Added "fov" to the multiplayer menu
Added "green armor" to the items
Increased server support
Added exe installer
Weapon bar HUD always on
Force Enemy models, on TDM and CTF

The current release added some more features, as well as removing the force model due to issues:
New improved Hud
New improved Brightskins
removed forcemodels
fixed mainmenu issues
fixed loadscreen issues
fixed various bugs causing "overload"-crashes
cleaned up various gui files
normalised machinegun sound
fixed q4 grabbing wrong gfx files
Steamfish Auto Updater

It sounds like the goal of q4max is to fix as many bugs in the game as possible, optimize the netcode, and add competition features. Changes in the weapons, physics, or gameplay in general are not the goal.

[break=XBattle]
XBattle is another competition mod with features very similar to q4max. So similar in fact there was talk of the mods joining together, but there were too many issues to overcome so it never happened. This concerned some players, many of whom saw a splintering of the community much like that of Promode and OSP in Quake 3.

XBattle has been chosen as the official mod for the GGL (Global Gaming League) as well as ClanBase.

The features for the current XBattle release include:
Grenade brightskins
New improved player brightskins
Turned the machinegun sound down
Gloweffect for weapons
Armor shard brightskins
Improved Hud

[break=q4X]
Unlike the previously mentioned mods, q4X is all about gameplay changes. q4X was inspired by the Excessive mod for Quake 3 with its insane weapons and weapon jumping.

You'll enter the arena with 400 in health but that counts down to 300. The Mega Health will bring you all the way up to 450 if you have full health. That is if you survive getting it.

Self damage is greatly reduced (usually not more than 1 point of health) opening the door for some crazy weapon jumping! You can jump using almost any projectile weapon! Fire the grenades, rockets, nailgun, hyperblaster or the DMG at the ground or a wall and off you go!

Faster fire rate, most powerful single shot weapon
Lightning Gun
Added some knockback and power
Dark Matter Gun
Faster fire rate and projectile speed, impact effects altered

[break=Domination]
This mod brings the domination game type to Quake 4. Domination was included in the Quake 3 TA expansion but unfortunatley TA wasn't embraced by the community.

When the game starts, all domination points will be unclaimed, and will be have a light grey colour. While they are like this, neither team is awarded points.

However, as soon as a player runs over the domination point, it will be claimed by that team. Running over a Domination Point that is already claimed by the other team will re-claim it for your team.

While you're playing, the team which has claimed all of the Domination Points is indicated in the top right of the screen, based upon the colours of the backgrounds. When a player claims a Domination Point you'll know - an alarm is sounded. Keep an eye out for your Domination Points being taken by the opposition.

Domination can be played on any CTF or DM level, or custom made Domination maps. Items in the level are swapped with Domination points - this can be (and is) customised for all of the standard maps via text files to allow the maps to be tweaked for Domination.

[break=baseft]
baseft is the mod most of the h8 community are waiting for, freezetag for Quake 4. Freezetag and instagib modes are planned, along with adding useful server variables missing from Quake 4. There isn't much more I can post about this mod as it's still in development but keep an eye out as there will hopefully be a beta soon.

[break=Quake4World]
The Q4W mod aims to bring some of the feel of Quake 1 Quakeworld to Quake 4. The whole idea is to have a game really fast, where movements can make the decision in a fight, and not only aiming. Where controlling a specific zone is really important, with precious items. A game where base weapons are not almost equals to the bigger ones. A game offering best of both world weapons, without making one too much powerful in a defensive situation.

In simple words, you have a new Rocket Launcher firing at a greater rate (.75), with faster rockets (1100), doing more damage (120). You also have a Lightning Gun doing a great amount of damage on short range fight, way more than Q3 and Q4, but a bit less than QW (250 damage/s) and you still have the RailGun. But its reload time is slower (2") and you have less slugs (5), so camping with it is shorten.

Oh yes, the hitbox is smaller. Other weapons are a bit changed also, ShotGun reloads slower, Grenade Launcher is basically the same but doing more damage (120) and the base weapon is no more a big threat (5 damage per bullet).

You move faster in Q4W than in vQ4. Not only your speed has been increased, but also all the movements that make Quake what it is are there : straffe-jump of course, circle-jump, ramp-jump, slide-jump but we bring back also bunny-hop and multiple-jump (double-jump is the most famous). Air control is greater also, so you can make very nice moves and being a bit less an easy target while in the air. That's a lot of work on the physics of the game, but it's worth the effort.

Domination would seem pretty cool, I first played the domination mode in ut2k3. Im against anything that has to do with cpma like in q3a. I ****ind down right dislike the air change movement.
