Protocol version 66

Hey guys,

I finally upgraded internet service - only to find the servers are now on 1.32. So I downloaded version 1.32, and the patch, and even the punkbuster manual control to enable Quake. Unfortunately, I cannot access these servers:
205.234.165.110:27960
205.234.165.112:27960
205.234.165.111:27960 - this one seems to be the only one that will let me in. The other two say "This server is using Protocol version 66" . Isn't that one of the old protocols? And if so, what do I do to join the fun on these servers? TIA

puck brother

The servers

205.234.165.110:27960
205.234.165.112:27960

are 1.30 servers, thats why u see protocol version 66 when u try to connect them through 1.32.

U can have both version (1.30 and 1.32 ) installed and then use version switcher.
other way use two different installation to have both versions like i do

How would you do this? I'm not sure how to go about it... I had 1.30 and then downloaded the 1.32 upgrade and patch and now wish I hadn't! I also downloaded the switcher and when I try to run it it says it's not a valid Win32 program

the quake executable is named quake3.exe. Install 1.30, rename quake3.exe into q_130.exe and then install 1.32 on top. Now you have both versions. All you have to do is make shortcut (or make a bunch for all your favorite servers )

Thanks Skif! I'm going to try this out. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Thanks CaT, I actually did just that - got annoyed and just uninstalled 1.32 point release and reinstalled 1.30 (I think 1.32 was overwritten on 1.30 so 1.30 quit working). Works like a charm - I was happily fragging (and being fragged even more so) this afternoon. Gonna eventually try Skif's method - sounds pretty straightforward. It sure is good to be back! Looking forward to seeing you there!
