lag problem

here's my issue:

i'm on windows xp pro

i close all apps running on my computer including virus protection.

when i play q3 every 5 - 6 minutes i get a brief 15 sec of lag. my ping stays the same.

then the game is smooth for about a min. then i get about 2 minutes of lag. i usually have to just sit and wait it out.

then the game goes back to normal for about 5 - 6 minutes.

i've checked to see if there is an app running in the background but i dont see anything.

has anyone experienced this before?

Re: lag problem

could be a number of problems.....

try gettin ping plotter and running it...itll give you a visual rep of any lag spikes you have..

could be a isp issue...router...modem..or an app runnin...

try disablin QoS RSVP in services ..i had an issue with this once affectin gameplay..

Re: lag problem

so the update to my problem is this:

got a new router from isp. same problem.

i've realized that i only experience the lag when i have the power cable plugged in to the laptop. if i unplug the power cable and run on the battery only i have no lag. also i've noticed there is no longer and icon in the bottom corner which shows the laptop is on dc power or is charging. also google doesnt tell me much.

any ideas?
