LCD Gaming Monitor?

Im looking to get a new LCD monitor, but which one? I have been doing a little research to familarize myself on what gamers look for. Im willing to spend around +-350$

Im limited to like 18" total width. So Im thinking on a 20" monitor.

What do you ppl think of widesceeens? The ones i see are stretching the image. (and it looks like poop)

I sure could use a few to compare.....

(damn those monitors with 1000:1 contrast ratios are NICE!!)

Please help!

Happy New Year guys and gals!

I have a 20'' monitors hooked up consectuviely, it's kick ass. Get a 20'', because you'll get adjusted to it so fast. You'll soon think all the others look like POOP.

Re: LCD Gaming Monitor?

Look for lcd's that have a low response time anthing 8 and lower. Lower is always good but I dont see no difference. The thing with lcd's is that there will be a slight difference in playing older games such as q3 which I noticed but it plays flawless on ut2k4 and q4. Widescreen will fvck with ur resolution in games also.

Usually ppl go to big monitors to play games and run windows in a higher resolution but you also have to have a video card that can push it in games more.

This is what I got http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824014090 no dead pixles plays games fine at max resolution ( for games that allow you to go that high.)
(a huge difference going from a 17" crt to this)
Or you could go name brand and basically pay more for the name.

Re: LCD Gaming Monitor?

I have Nvidia 7900gs

I still need to do some research, but i will post a few links when i narrow it down.

Still please give input...

I was thinking min. 800:1

Cat I can only fit a 20" in my cabinet. "ViewSonic VG2230wm" I was looking at them in a 20

So 16x9 will complicate things? (unless the game is 16x9)

Dudes the NEC what is it Opticlear is flippin awesome!!

Re: LCD Gaming Monitor?

Yes research is the best thing. Find the monitor that will suit you best for what your needs are.

Re: LCD Gaming Monitor?

I have a Dell 2005 monitor that is absolutely awesome. I bought it for Quake 4 last year the pictures are nice. Cosmo has an acer 19" wide something or other that has specs that seem close on paper but the picture quality is not even close.

The Dell 2005 cost me about $600 and the acer cost about $250. You can get some awesome technology for about $300 now when you stay small. Personally, I think a small high quality screen is better than a big low quality screen.

Take a trip out to Fry's to see what they have and get a feel for the different specs then buy one from NewEgg.

Unfortunately for me, I have more monitors than computers right now and I can't even rationalize a new monitor.

Re: LCD Gaming Monitor?

You pancake nerds. Just ask the best buy guy what he thinks best, let him rip you off by giving you a shoddy selection, and you'll be on your way with a smile on your face, no clue as to if your monitor is good, and a very big hole in your bank account.

Easy.

Jack, that was a post just for the sake of posting! The new tech forums would have you modded down in minutes.

BTW, Samsung makes the monitors for Dell. They seem to be making the best monitors for the price these days.
