new vid card

well my ati 850 finally went to hell

i had a choice to make on a new card..my puter is gettin a little old..and i didnt want to get a high end card yet until i build a new box..hopefully some time later this summer...

i ended up going with a 2600xt that i found for 70 bucks online..

i have been super happy so far with the card...its really quiet..>20dB
..and can handle almost everything i throw at it...512 of ddr3..hdcp and 1080p are good features..and i like atis avivo software

cant take advantage of the dx10 yet as im still with xp..i was tryin to wait until the vista sp1 came out to upgrade..

anyone with vista now?? and if so, whats your take on it?

Re: new vid card

I've had experience with it (parents have it and my roommate) and I haven't seen any real problems with it.. I think that it's fine.. You're best bet is upgrading because games nowadays and dx10.. even if you have to wait for a service pack Vista is still worth it imo.. anyways.. you know ppl don't like change so they ***** about it and what not.. I've had no problems but then again i haven't used vista to run any games

Re: new vid card

I run it (x64 version) on one of my computers. Don't have any problems. I do miss NT a bit with it's RAM footprint < 100 Mb though.

Re: new vid card

my expir. with vista and quake 3 truley sucked im runnin==
gigabyte board
amd 64 dual core 4200
nvidia 8600 gts
2 gigs ddr2
and vista ultimate 32bit

just switched back to xp there is no way possible to raise the gamma or brightness in quake3 nearly unplayable
every other game like quake wars...timeshift...crysis all worked great
??????????/ vista doesnt like the old games?????????/
also if ya get a machine w/ vista allready installed its bullet proof
if yer just upgradin the os...be prepared for issues
if ya crash like i tend to do hehehe i loose the boot file in vista steady
and the sata drives get confused on were the os is..just a headache
dont ever hit the restart button no matter how long it takes to restart just wait!
maybe you have better luck than me
id still go back to vista but i wait till it get 100% user freindly and bug free
