Interview with Razer president

Recently had a chat with Robert "Razer Guy" Krakoff, and here's is what we discussed:

Razer Guy Shares Thoughts on Gaming Today Articles - OCIA.net

He's a very good guy, but there still are a couple of complaints regarding the company's customer support for broken items. A friend of mine couldn't get a new product until I intervened and helped him out, which seems to be par for the course for the company. I haven't had any problems personally, but it's something I am trying to get to the bottom of.

Re: Interview with Razer president

say, I've been looking at Creative HS-1200 headset, do you have any opinions on it?

I also am looking for a new mouse, my G7 is on the edge. But unfortunatelly 90% of "gaming" mice are corded - I can't seem to get myself to get back to the cord. Having my mouse tied down with a cord feels really unnatural to me. Any suggestions?

Hey skif, I'll take a look around and see what I can find.

I'm going to ask Krakoff about cordless gaming mice as well in my next interview, which I hope to have published next week sometime.

Re: Interview with Razer president

Hey Skif, if you're going to spend a decent sum on gaming headphones, I honestly recommend something from either SteelSeries or Razer.

Linkage to SteelSeries headsets: Audio - SteelSeries
Linkage to Razer audio: Razer | For Gamers. By Gamers.™ | Gaming Audio

If it's possible, I would try and find some of the models locally so you can actually touch and even try on the headphones before purchasing them.

The Creative HS-1200 look ideal on the surface, but I think Creative jacks up the price of any "X-fi enabled" product, and no one is really sure if it works. A lot of the audiophiles I have spoken with said it's complete marketing garbage that Creative uses to help propel average equipment and make it seem more relevant. I've seen a lot of the Creative stuff first hand and can't say I noticed much of a sound difference between the stuff that is x-fi compatible and didn't use x-fi.

Soundwise, it's hard to try and figure out which headset sounds the same, you know? Some people swear by Bose audio stuff, while others say it's overpriced garbage. I won't say it's garbage, but it does seem overpriced when compared to other similar products... gaming gear is the same way.

But if you are looking for wireless, then I guess the Creative headset will be the ideal one you're after. But like I said, I think that x-fi garbage adds an additional $20+ to the price tag. If you're okay with it, then go for it!

As to gaming mice being cordless... my friend, don't hold your breath. The companies making gaming mice want to have speed between the mouse and actual movement in the game as fast as possible, and it seems like a cabled mouse is necessary for that.

I'll have to go out on the hunt later tonight to try and find something suitable for you.

Re: Interview with Razer president

wow, thanks for the effort, really appreciate it! Indeed I wasn't falling for x-fi marketing crap, it's the 8hrs of lifetime without wires that made me drool. I have 4 computers in my office and as you might imagine that implies TONS of wires. I am really sick and tired of constantly managing them. I have wired 5.1 headset from Turtlebeach (matter of fact I bought a second pair after the first one died after 3+ years of service). I am quite happy with the quality, but I hate being attached to my computer with yet another wire!!! I might swing back to wired mice after all because G7 made my experience with batteries way too tiresome. I can't complain about any lag with it though - never had a problem with that.
